Mineral County High School GEAR UP alumni Amyah Boyd and Devon Settergren-Davis recently participated in the 2019 National Council for Community and Education Partnership (NCCEP)/National GEAR UP Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) in San Francisco, Calif. Participants are carefully selected from an applicant pool of students from across each state.
This year’s YLS consisted of approximately 300 GEAR UP students, rising freshman college alumni and over 2,000 attendees for the conference.
The YLS participants over the course of 3.5 days undergo an array of leadership training led by Seeds Training and NCCEP staff. The students participate in phenomenal leadership training, enhance their abilities to communicate effectively, develop the capacity to work effectively in teams, and create meaningful connections with student from across the nation.
The students closed out the National GEAR UP conference with an outstanding presentation that showcased their new found skills, educational concerns, and how they plan to make a difference in each of their communities.
