While driving down Mesquite Boulevard, don’t just blow by the Mesquite Fine Arts Center or you’ll miss Earth, Wind and Fire. No, it’s not the iconic 70s band; it’s the new competition and exhibit at the gallery this month sponsored by the Eureka Casinos Resort.
You won’t have to fight the elements, just meander around and enjoy the vestigial artwork created or captured by several Virgin Valley artists. Local artists have given the public their versions of the elements, what they can do or something that represents the properties of earth, wind or fire. You’ll find something that will appeal to your rudimentary senses no matter what your choice of elemental conditions may be.
Stunning paintings, ceramics, digital art and jewelry are on display now through Sept. 1. Visitors may cast their votes for the People’s Choice when they visit the gallery. A reception will be held to announce the winners of the exhibit on Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. The reception is free to the public and everyone is invited.
The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery is a city-owned facility, operated by the Virgin Valley Artists Association. VVAA members provide the original artwork that is shown in the gallery and gift shop. All art is offered for sale and displays are changed monthly. In addition to the special exhibitions, members show their fine works in a wide variety of mediums. The Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about membership, upcoming exhibitions, and art and pottery classes, see the VVAA website at www.mesquitefineartscenter.com or talk with the front desk volunteer at the Gallery.
