    Race the Rails       

    Ely, Sept. 8, 8 a.m – 10:30 a.m.

    At the sound of the train whistle, mountain bikers and road bikers race onto their individual courses to see who can get back to the depot before the train.     Las Vegas, Sept. 6-9 at the Plaza Hotel and Casino

    59th International Camel & Ostrich Races

    Virginia City, Sept. 7-9, 10 a.m. – noon

    Camels, ostriches and zebras make a fine spectacle to watch as they race around the Virginia City Arena & Fairgrounds with jockeys precariously perched on their backs.
